The annual Presidents' Dinner will have an adventurous locale combined with the Alumni Association's centennial celebration and an awe-inspiring tribute to out-going President Wayne Clough.
The dinner will be Saturday, May 17, at Epps Aviation Hangar at Peachtree DeKalb Airport and is an annual occasion for alumni who have made contributions of $1,000 or more to Roll Call, the Association's annual giving program. It is hosted by President Clough, Alumni Association chair C. Meade Sutterfield and Georgia Tech Foundation chair Hubert "Herky" Harris.
It will be the final dinner hosted by Clough, who has accepted the chief executive post with the Smithsonian Institution. He assumes his new office July 1.
"Wayne Clough is the most capable and accomplished president in the history of Georgia Tech," said Joseph P. Irwin, IM 80, president of the Alumni Association. "His vision, his ability to work with others and his passion for Georgia Tech have brought the Institute to a remarkable place. He is one of the finest leaders I've ever worked with whether it's academia, corporate or government. The Smithsonian Institution will benefit as will the United States."
Marilyn Somers, director of the Alumni Association's Living History program, will present a video tribute at the dinner that celebrates the highlights of Clough's remarkable tenure at Tech.
Alumni Association trustee Ernest "Pat" Epps, ME 56, is president and owner of Epps Aviation and a noted adventurer. He is co-founder of the Greenland Expedition Society, which discovered the "Lost Squadron" of eight fighter planes ditched during World War II. The dinner will reflect Epps' sense of adventure.
