Georgia Tech graduates will gather at an Atlanta watering hole in June to root for fellow Yellow Jackets over food, drinks and music. It's not an off-season football game. They'll be watching the 400-foot descent of some daring young alums from the top of a Midtown Atlanta skyscraper.
One hundred young alumni will get a chance to play Spiderman for a day in Rappel for Roll Call June 14 in celebration of the Alumni Association's centennial.
The activity is just one of many planned for the first Young Alumni Reunion Weekend June 13 to 16. Other festivities planned for alumni who graduated from Georgia Tech between 1997 and 2007 include get-togethers at Tech student haunts, tours of campus and a golf tournament.
Young alumni who raise $1,000 for Roll Call will have the opportunity to rappel down Viewpoint, Novare Group's new 36-story building on Peachtree Street. Over the Edge, a special events company that provides ropes and technical consulting for nonprofit organizations throughout North America, will provide the service to the Alumni Association and train participants prior to the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Saturday of the reunion.
Alumni afraid of heights may attend a rappel-watching party across the street from Viewpoint on the patio of the Gordon Biersch Brewery, which will be reserved exclusively for members of the Tech community. Friends and family of those participating in Rappel for Roll Call are also invited.
