The squadron, consisting of six P-38s and two B-17 Flying Fortress bombers, was forced to land in severe weather in Greenland during World War II on a mission to Iceland. Mr. Epps and Mr. Taylor became fascinated with the story and in August of 1981 they began searching for the aircraft. In 1988, with the help of subsurface radar, the expedition was able to locate the eight planes 260 feet below the ice and snow. They recovered one P-38 and parts of one of the B-17s, returned them to Atlanta and subsequently restored the P-38 to flying condition. Don't miss their account of this bigger than life adventure that lasted eight years, cost more money than either ever dreamed and made them the poster boys of modern adventurers.</description><enclosure url="http://gtalumni.org/jacketcast/files/hc2007_lost_squadron.mp3" length="17847888" type="audio/mp3" /><itunes:explicit>clean</itunes:explicit><itunes:subtitle>Two Tech alumni go on a bigger than life adventure that lasted eight years and cost more money than either ever dreamed.</itunes:subtitle><itunes:duration>59:29</itunes:duration><itunes:author>Homecoming 2007</itunes:author><itunes:summary>In 1980, Pat Epps (ME 56) and Richard Taylor (M ARCH 64) heard stories about the Lost Squadron while flying a single-engine Bonanza airplane around the Arctic Circle.
