Sheng Xu is currently an associate professor at the University of California, San Diego. He received his bachelor’s in Chemistry from Peking University and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Georgia Tech, followed by postdoctoral studies in the materials research lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His group is interested in developing new materials and fabrication strategies for flexible electronic devices. Xu’s research has been presented to the U.S. Congress as a testimony supporting the importance and impact of the National Institutes of Health’s appropriation. He has received many awards, including the MRS Outstanding Early Career Investigator award. He is a Kavli Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and a Frontier of Engineering of the National Academy of Engineering.

Favorite Tech Memory: I met my wife on her first day of orientation as a new PhD student in 2008.
