From allowing the fewest points in a D1 basketball game to forcing the most turnovers in college football, here are five times in history when Georgia Tech set athletic records.
Fewest Points Allowed in a D1 Women’s Basketball Game
2010 vs. Tennessee State University
On December 30, 2010, Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball set the record for fewest points allowed in a regulation D1 women’s basketball game with 11 points, a record that still stands as of the 2026–‘27 season. Tech started on a 27-0 run before allowing Tennessee State’s first point with 11:05 left in the first half, from a free throw. By halftime, Tennessee State had only scored three points, which at the time was the D1 record for fewest points scored by a team in a single half. Since this game, Lipscomb University (2016) and Ole Miss (2020) have reset the record for fewest points in a half to two, but Tech’s record of 11 points allowed in a full game still stands as of June 2026. “After the win we were proud that we took care of business. Looking back now, I’m more impressed than I was during the moment,” says Sasha Goodlett, HTS 12.

Most Turnovers Forced in a Single FBS Football Game
1951 vs. University of Georgia
On December 1, 1951, Tech Football’s defense defined the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) record for turnovers forced in a single game with 13 (8 interceptions, 5 fumbles recovered) against the University of Georgia. By halftime, Tech led 34-0, and UGA’s quarterback set the record for most interceptions thrown by a quarterback in a single game.
Tech’s George Maloof, IM 53, scored four touchdowns, which at the time was the most scored by a player in a single game in the Tech/UGA rivalry.
Tech still holds the turnover record today, and the win over UGA helped propel them to the Orange Bowl, where they beat Baylor 17-14, courtesy of a game-winning field goal by Pepper Rodgers, IM 55. Tech finished the season with an 11-0-1 record and a share of the SEC championship with the University of Tennessee.

Most Turnovers Forced in a Single FBS Football Game
Largest Margin of Victory by a D1 Baseball Team (Until 1999)
1975 vs. Earlham College
On March 21, 1975, Tech Baseball took on Earlham, beating them 41-0 and setting the record for the largest margin of victory by a D1 baseball team for more than 20 years. Earlham was on their way back to Indiana from a spring break trip and were severely overmatched by Tech. The game had no mercy-rule in effect, allowing Tech to stack runs as Earlham’s pitchers struggled to throw strikes.
Tech’s starting pitcher, Jerry Bass, IM 77, threw a no-hitter in the game, which is still the last 9-inning no-hitter thrown by a Jacket.
In 1999, Nebraska broke Tech’s margin of victory record, winning a game by 47 runs. Tech still maintains the record for most runs scored without allowing a single run.
Tech was unaware that they had set the margin of victory record that day. “I didn’t know until probably 25 to 30 years later,” said Jim Giuliani, IE 73, Tech’s left fielder in 1975.

Most Points Scored by a Player in a Single ACC Basketball Season
Dennis Scott’s 1990 season
In the 1989–'90 men’s basketball season, Dennis Scott, Mgt 90, MBA 23, set the ACC record for most points scored in a season with 960 points. He also set the ACC record for the most minutes played per game at 39.1 minutes.
Scott played alongside teammates Brian Oliver, BC 07, and Kenny Anderson, Mgt 93, who combined were known as “Lethal Weapon 3.” The group, led by Head Coach Bobby Cremins, brought Tech to its first Final Four in program history that season.
During the season, Scott set the record for most three-pointers made in a single game (11) and continued his record streak of consecutive games with at least one three-pointer made (69 games).
In 2025, Scott’s No. 4 jersey was retired inside McCamish Pavilion.

Most Points Scored by a Player in a Single ACC Basketball Season
First School to Win the Cotton, Sugar, Rose, and Orange Bowls
Football’s 1950s Bowl Run
In 1955, Georgia Tech Football became the first to accomplish the closest thing to a “Grand Slam” in college football by winning the Rose Bowl (1929), Sugar Bowl (1943), Orange Bowl (1939), and Cotton Bowl (1955).
Tech reached the mark by winning the 1955 Cotton Bowl against the University of Arkansas 14-6, scoring two touchdowns in the second half to secure the win.
Tech finished the 1954 season 8-3. Eight other schools have since won the four major bowl games since Tech.
Tech’s Cotton Bowl victory was the fourth in a stretch of major bowl wins in five consecutive seasons under Head Coach Bobby Dodd. Tech won the 1956 Sugar Bowl the following season. Florida State is the only other school to have won five consecutive major bowls (1991–'95 seasons).
“[Our success] started with the boys Coach Dodd picked to be on the team and the way he handled us. We got along well with each other and understood each other,” says Ed Gossage, IM 54, captain of the 1953 football team.
