Give 'Em Hell, Caddell!

What do you get the “helluva engineer” in your life who has everything? For John Caddell’s family, the answer is his own Ramblin’ Wreck. His family surprised him for his 91st birthday with a near-perfect replica, complete with pennant flags that read, “Give ‘em Hell, Caddell!”

Working with the Ramblin’ Reck Club and the School of Architecture, John’s daughter, Cathy, found the Model A in Florida and had the car restored and decked out in white and gold at Bentley’s in Maysville, Georgia.

John Caddell earned his bachelor’s in architecture from Tech in 1952, before founding Caddell Construction. The John and Joyce Caddell Building, which houses the School of Building Construction offices, is named after John and his late wife, Joyce. The idea for the gift originated from a photo of the Ramblin’ Wreck outside the building, explains Caddell Construction President and CEO Eddie Stewart. “He looked at that framed picture and said, ‘I want one of those cars!’ That started it a while back and we didn’t give up.”
