More than 13,000 students have studied at Georgia Tech-Europe (previously called Georgia Tech-Lorraine) since the program began in 1990. Today, enrollment is the largest it’s ever been, with record attendance last summer.
Full-Circle Moment for GTE Tech Family
The Denozières in Atlanta. Owen (far left) started attending GTE in 2026. His parents, Guilhem and Annie, met while his father was studying at GTE in Metz, France in 2002.
In fall 2002, Guilhem Denozière, MS ME 04, was studying at GTE in Metz, France, through the dual degree program with Arts et Métiers (ENSAM). Resolute about finishing his degree in Atlanta, he had promised himself not to get entangled in any new romance. Then, in line at the CROUS student cafeteria, he met Annie, a French major from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, teaching at a nearby high school. That ordinary Tuesday became the start of a decades-long international love story. The Denozières married and 24 years later, their son, Owen, is returning to where their story began. This fall, he joined Tech’s First-Year Semester Abroad program at GTE. “It was the same place they found love,” Owen says.
Georgia Tech-Europe's Next Evolution
GTE President Abdallah Ougazzaden shows GTE board members architectural renderings at the construction site in June of 2026.
The GTE that he enters is not the one his father knew. The site is undergoing an expansion to double capacity from 700 students to 1,400, adding two new buildings, with naming opportunities, along with classroom space.
“As we enter this new chapter, our focus remains on enriching the student experience and strengthening our role as a bridge between cultures, institutions, and industries,” says Abdallah Ougazzaden, president of GTE.
About Georgia Tech-Europe
That added space will serve a variety of academic purposes. The First-Year Semester Abroad program starts with a three-week late-summer session in Atlanta before a full fall semester in Metz. GTE also offers semester-long undergraduate study options. Graduate students can study for a semester or complete a full master’s or doctoral degree across four programs: aerospace engineering, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, and mechanical engineering. GTE is also home to a joint international research laboratory specializing in optoelectronics.
Engaging European-Based Alumni
In June 2026, the Tech Talks Business series, hosted by the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business, made its international debut, in collaboration with GTE, at Luxembourg Palace in Paris. Leaders from across the Institute and alumni discussed how universities and organizations must adapt in an AI-driven world. The event was followed by an alumni networking reception.
